Every rotation, without the spreadsheet
Most custody schedules are one of a handful of patterns: 2-2-3, 2-2-5-5, week-on/week-off, alternating weekends, or an every-other-weekend arrangement with a midweek dinner. Braidly generates all of them from a single start date, and handles the custom ones too.
Once the pattern is set, the calendar keeps generating forward indefinitely. There is no monthly re-entry, no colour-coded spreadsheet to maintain, and no version that lives in one parent’s phone and nowhere else.
Handoff times attach to the day, not to memory. Friday 5:00 PM at school pickup is on the calendar as a handoff, with a note field for whatever the receiving parent needs to know.
The colours mean the same thing in both houses
Dad is always blue. Mom is always orange. In every account, on every screen, and on the printed version that ends up on a fridge. The colours key off the parent’s role, never off whoever happens to be logged in.
That sounds like a small design decision. It is the difference between a seven-year-old reading the same calendar in two homes and getting the same answer, and a seven-year-old getting collected on the wrong day. It is also the most colour-blind-safe pairing available.
The calendar prints with the colours intact — browsers drop background fills on print by default, which would turn a custody calendar into a grid of identical white boxes.
Holidays, school breaks and the exceptions that cause fights
Eighteen US holidays are pre-seeded when you create your family, ready to assign by year or alternate automatically. School breaks can be assigned per child, which matters once siblings are at different schools with different calendars.
Braidly can read a school calendar and propose the break dates rather than making you type them in. Every override — a swapped weekend, a changed handoff — is recorded with who requested it and who agreed, so “we never agreed to that” stops being a conversation.

What custody schedules does Braidly support?

Can I print the custody calendar?
Yes. Braidly produces a printable month view with the custody colours preserved, which is what most parents put on the fridge so children can see their schedule without a device. Browsers normally strip background colours when printing, so Braidly explicitly forces them to print.
What happens when we swap a weekend?
Either parent can request a change to a specific day or range. The other parent approves or declines, and the override is recorded with a timestamp, who asked, and who agreed. The underlying rotation is untouched, so the schedule returns to normal afterwards automatically.
Do my children need an account to see the schedule?
No. Children can open a private link on their own device that shows a simplified view of where they are staying and when. They see the schedule only — never the parents’ messages, expenses or journal entries.
Can both parents start the week on different days?
Yes. Whether the grid starts on Sunday or Monday is a personal display preference set per parent, and it has no effect whatsoever on the custody rotation itself. Both parents see the same custody days regardless of how their grid is arranged.
